Now that Phantasy Star Online 2 will be available on Steam, the official Phantasy Star Online 2 blog created an extremely in-depth post on how to properly link accounts. Originally only available through the Microsoft Store, you can now try your hand at it on through a whole new platform. However, if you’ve already sunk a sizable amount of time into Phantasy Star Online 2 through either the Windows 10 or Xbox version of the game, you’ll want to follow the steps exactly.

One of the biggest warnings in the post itself is that creating a character or player ID on a new platform is irreversible. If you’ve already done this, you will not be able to link your accounts.

Along with the release of the Steam platform of PSO2, an account-linking feature has been added that will allow accounts used on Xbox One and Windows 10 to be played on Steam, therefore preserving your past play-time. ATTENTION: Do not start Phantasy Star Online 2 on a new platform until you fully understand this account-linking process.
  3. Right click on the shortcut and hit properties, then add the flag at the end of the 'shortcut' box. For Steam, add the PSO2 Tweaker to your library, then right click the game in your library. Select 'Properties.' , then 'Set Launch Options.' , and put one of these flags in the popup window.

If you’re a Steam user and would like to link your account from the Windows client (through the Xbox app) or the Xbox One, you will need to locate the Support Menu from the Windows 10 or Xbox One version of Phantasy Star Online 2. Then select the option to issue an account linking code. This code will only be valid for fifteen minutes. The window will look like the one displayed below.

After launching Phantasy Star Online 2 for Steam for the first time, select your ship and enter your account linking code. This code can only be used when setting up your account on a new platform for the first time. As mentioned before, if you have already created a character or player ID through Steam, you will not be able to link your accounts.

Once this is all said and done, you can now play Phantasy Star Online 2 through Steam, Windows 10, or the Xbox One with the same data.

While Phantasy Star Online 2 may have just released in North America, the developers have already mentioned that they plan on implementing at least eight years worth of content throughout the course of 2020.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is available for the Xbox One and the PC via Windows 10.

This short guide assumes you have a working Windows Store PSO2 NA install already. If you do not, please see thefresh PSO2 NA Windows Store install guide here.
If you live outside of the supported areas for the Steam version, you can continue to play the Windows Store version using the Tweaker while we try to find a reliable method for you guys. Please note that using a VPN is not recommended, as valve has been known to issue account bans for people who use them to circumvent region locks :( Hang tight!

If you have not already, please authorize your free PSO2 license in Steam by clicking Play Game once on this page while logged in. Cancel out of the install menu that pops up. You MUST DO THIS OR THE TWEAKER CANNOT LAUNCH THE GAME

Converting Windows store install to Steam install

This guide is relatively straightforward and simple. It takes a minute or two and skips all the download steps (aside from the filecheck, just to be safe). After following these steps (and linking PSO2 to your steam above), you will be ready to play PSO2 NA Steam! o/

Please note that, after doing this, you will be able to swap between the Microsoft Store and Steam versions of PSO2NA at any time, with them both working as expected.

  1. Open the PSO2 Tweaker (6.0.2.1+) and change your version from 'North American (MS)' to 'North American (Steam)'.
  2. On the popup, select 'North American', then , then 'Yes'. Select the same 'pso2_bin' folder you were using in your Windows Store install. (Where PSO2NA is currently installed)
  3. Wait for the console windows to finish, then hit OK to restart the Tweaker.
  4. Hit yes to do a filecheck, and wait for it to finish.
  5. Once the filecheck has completed, you can now launch either the Steam or Microsoft Store version of the game at any time by switching at the top.

    6. Linking Windows Store PSO2 account to Steam account

    Now that you can use the two versions side-by-side, switch the version back to 'North American (MS)'. Launch the game through the MS Store like before to get your code. Then close the game, switch to the 'North American (Steam)' version. Launch the game, put in the code, and enjoy the game! o/
